Motivating employees - how to do it effectively?

A motivation system in a prosperous and dynamically developing company with qualified staff is undoubtedly the key to success. On the portal for investors, you will find many well-functioning companies that you can take over (e.g. sell an accounting office).

This is very important because often the success and the prosperity of a company depend on the employees, their commitment and their ability to fulfill their duties.

Employees can be motivated in two ways: positively or negatively.

Positive methods include financial motivation, such as all kinds of rewards, discretionary bonuses, performance-related bonuses or pay rises, as well as non-wage benefits such as insurance packages, cinema passes, fitness club memberships, language courses, discounts on company products, Christmas vouchers or company lunches.

This way, employees get involved in the company's development, and the employer gains loyal employees who can be counted on and who are happy to carry out the tasks entrusted to them.

However, it is worth remembering, especially in the case of non-wage motivators, to choose the right reward for a given employee. Why give a cinema ticket to someone who doesn't go to the cinema, e.g. an older person, or a gym membership?

Motivating employees also improves the company's image, especially in terms of being a friendly environment for employees.

However, it is important to keep the right balance in rewarding employees. If an employee knows that they will always be rewarded, regardless of their performance, then this type of motivation loses its effectiveness. On the other hand, an employee who tries hard and strives for the company's success, but cannot count on any reward, will eventually consider leaving the company, or even worse, will reduce their efforts and the results of their work will be completely opposite.

A slightly different way to encourage mobilization and action in employees is negative motivation, often perceived as a controversial method of influencing employees and the effectiveness of their work. This method involves the use of threats, such as the loss of a job or demotion to a lower position. Another method is to deduct bonuses.

Negative motivation can lead to a deterioration of the working atmosphere and a loss of job satisfaction.

Negative motivation is now increasingly being abandoned, as it is often considered that if a superior uses threats and punishments against a subordinate, it cannot be called motivation.

It often happens that this kind of motivation brings more losses than benefits, practically for the whole company. Such an employer, when treating an employee like a naughty child, becomes unreliable in the eyes of other employees, who do not care about the interests of the company and the employees themselves.

Therefore, it is much better to use positive methods of rewarding employees, thus gaining a really strong group of people satisfied with their work.

However, many employers complain that positive motivation requires them to incur costs in order to implement it in the company.

This is not necessary. There are many methods of motivating employees without financial outlay. First of all, you can take advantage of offers from companies that provide employees with various forms of development (such as the aforementioned language courses) on the basis of various contracts. In addition, there are many different methods of non-wage compensation, such as public praise in front of the whole team, which is good for relationships in the company. It costs nothing, and the employee will feel that his work is appreciated.

By using this type of motivation, the employee will strive to repeat the action for which they were praised by their boss or leader in the future. In addition, their self-esteem increases and they become an expert in their field. It is also worth informing employees whether what they are doing is effective and whether they should improve their performance.

With this kind of information, the employee will try to perform the task with increasing commitment, knowing what they need to work on and what is being done well.

The employer should also give their employees the opportunity to come up with ideas that will be used for the company's development - this will give them a sense of belonging to the organization and their importance. As a result, they will be more willing to come up with new ideas, knowing that the company's management is interested in their opinion.

Motivating employees of smaller companies and large corporations.

The differences in motivating employees in companies depend on the number of people employed. In smaller companies, everyone knows each other, so no one is anonymous, and therefore motivation can be approached in a more personal way.

In larger companies, on the other hand, it is difficult to know the needs of each employee, but the manager should get to know the team he or she leads and the individual employees well and make sure they are properly rewarded.

It is worth remembering that a motivated employee works more efficiently and effectively. Unfortunately, there are still few employers who remember to invest in their subordinates. If you do not have time to motivate employees in your company, it may be worth considering looking for a partner.

A reward and praise system may well improve the well-being of employees, but established regulations and possible consequences of non-compliance will prevent possible abuse. As with everything, harmony is the most important thing. Just as people differ, so do the things that motivate them. This way, there is a high likelihood that all employees will be reached.
