Only Bulgaria and Romania have a lower level of consumer goods and services prices than Poland - according to data for 2018 published on Thursday by Eurostat, the EU statistical office. In Poland, the price level last year was 54.3% of the EU average. In Romania, it was 8.6 percent, and in Bulgaria 46.3 percent.
At the other end of the spectrum, among EU countries, are Luxembourg (141.6 percent), Denmark (138.1 percent) and Ireland (129.2 percent). It is more expensive in Western European non-EU countries: the price level in Iceland is 163.7% of the EU average, in Switzerland it is 159.1% and in Norway 155.4%.
Relatively speaking, hospitals and housing are the cheapest in Poland. In both cases, prices do not exceed 40% of the EU average. We also pay less than half of the EU average for telecommunications, healthcare and education. However, in the case of education, there was a significant increase in 2018. However, this increase was not as high as for clothing, the prices of which were closest to the EU average last year.
