In a very short period of time, COVID-19 has caused a global crisis, both humanitarian and social as well as economic. People all over the world are worried about their safety and that of their loved ones. The scale of the economic impact of the coronavirus is also becoming increasingly apparent, threatening the livelihoods of millions of workers.
For weeks, we have been watching how many companies, organizations and governments are working together to contain the pandemic – developing new tests, providing the necessary protective equipment and implementing aid packages for entrepreneurs. During this time, we are all asking very important questions: How long will the pandemic last? How long will it take to develop an effective vaccine? Which industries will be most affected by the crisis? How can we protect jobs?
The uncertainty of business leaders concerns both what is happening here and now and what will happen in the coming weeks and months. Priorities from the first phase of the crisis, such as ensuring the safety of employees, will have to be supplemented by others, such as ensuring business continuity and financial liquidity. In addition, there are new regulations, modifications and changes in supply chains, and the growing risk of cyberattacks. These elements, combined with the efforts that the owners and managers of Polish companies are making today to maintain thousands of jobs, are key challenges for the national economy.
