Activity: PGE Ventures is a Corporate Venture Capital fund established within the PGE Capital Group, which aims to invest in startups. The fund uses financial leverage in the form of external programs, such as PFR Ventures, but also has its own funds dedicated to projects that are of strategic importance to the Group and are part of its value chain.

The PGE Ventures fund provides financial support to young entrepreneurs, offers access to advanced research and development infrastructure through cooperation with partners, helps with marketing activities, and transfers knowledge and business experience.

What stage the project must be in: PGE Ventures intends to invest in start-ups in the early and growth phases that meet specific investment criteria. Preference is given to companies that have at least a first version of the product, are selling and operating in the broad energy market.
Investment amount: Depending on the stage of development, start-ups can expect to receive funding in the range of 1 million to 5 million PLN. The fund prefers to take a minority stake in young companies and, in addition to capital contributions, also offers know-how in both core business and support functions.
Examples of investments:
PiMerge – a company established to commercialize a technology for merging various types of waste fly ash into a product characterized by high resistance to leaching. The aim was to process the substrates in such a way as to economically utilize the waste and reduce the release of pollutants into the environment associated with their storage or other use. This is how the technology for producing a product with the temporary name of “composite coal fuel” was created, using waste remaining from hard coal production on the Polish market: flotation concentrate, sludge and coal fines. The PiMerge product is characterized by the stability of its physicochemical parameters and is an economically and qualitatively competitive equivalent to the fuel currently used on the market for low-emission retort furnaces. The innovative technology can help to effectively reduce the problem of low emissions, which is one of the main causes of smog in large urban agglomerations.

Scanway specializes in providing engineering services including the development of vision, 3D scanning and laser systems, machining stations and CAD design. The company primarily acts as an integrator that creates ready-made systems for specific technological processes. The technology and services offered by Scanway are particularly aimed at groups of companies with assets that are critical to maintaining the supply chain. These companies include large corporations in the oil and energy sector. Monitoring and constant observation of energy infrastructure is essential to maintain the operational capacity of assets for generating and transmitting electricity.
