Area of interest: Impera Alfa's main investment area is the broadly defined sector of agriculture, animal husbandry and food production (National Smart Specialization No. 4 - Innovative technologies, processes and products of the agri-food and forestry sectors). In addition, the fund is looking for projects in the areas of renewable energy, ICT, health-tech, clean-tech, and fin-tech.

Activity: The Impera Alfa Fund is a venture capital fund that was established to finance early-stage technology projects, primarily from research institutions.

Origin: The fund was established in 2015 by Impera Capital S.A. together with the National Center for Research and Development as part of the Bridge Alfa pilot program implemented in 2015-2016.

What stage the project must be at: Impera Alfa invests in projects at a very early stage of development, i.e. in the Proof of Principle or Proof of Concept phase.

Investment amount: The fund commits financing in the range from PLN 200,000 (for projects at the Proof of Principle stage) to PLN 1 million (for projects at the Proof of Concept stage).

Examples of investments:

1. Napiferyn Biotech – the aim of the project is to develop an innovative technology for the production of protein isolates based on oil plants, with particular emphasis on rapeseed, which is not currently used for this purpose.
2. Life Gel – The aim of the project is to develop a new biological medium for three-dimensional cell culture. This type of solution is used to conduct biological in vitro experiments.
3. Tools Chem – The aim of the project is to develop a new chemical preparation for specialized industrial cleaning, i.e. of elements contaminated with petroleum derivatives, among other things. The product will be an alkaline agent enriched with anti-corrosion agents (protecting metal alloy elements). The agent will be used in an aqueous solution.

The biggest success and the biggest investment failure? The fund considers the biggest success to be the acquisition of an industry investor for our portfolio company, Napiferyn Biotech Sp. z o.o. The involvement of a new entity confirms the value of this project and at the same time allows for its further continuation.
